Activists harassed and unlawfully searched by NYPD, issued summonses
April 19th 2007

On Thursday, April 19th at approximately 11:15pm, a group of activists went to the NYC home of Angela Stulley, part of the Global Client Group for NYSE Arca. The crowd demanded that Arca drop HLS (ticker: LSR) from the exchange and stop widening the pockets of those who profit off the suffering of animals. People walking by seemed interested and several were very supportive. 5 or 6 NYPD police cars arrived and many officers got out and began harassing activists who were peacefully protesting on the sidewalk without blocking traffic. The officers forcibly cuffed three of the protestors for simply invoking their right not to show ID and then illegally searched their bags until ID was found. The officers falsely claimed that one is required to show ID when asked and threatened to arrest anyone who questioned the constitutionality of the situation. All activists at the demonstration were given summonses for disorderly conduct and were eventually allowed to leave without arrests.
