Dozens Demonstrate Outside Hofstra University, Two Arrested
Protest Take Aim at Collin Goddard & HLS Supporter GlaxoSmithKline
|
On Thursday December 22nd dozens of members of the Animal Defense League -
Long Island held a "surprise" demonstration at Hofstra University to
protest CEO to OSI Pharmaceuticals Collin Goddard. Collin Goddard was
asked by the university to give the keynote address at the mid-year
graduation commencement ceremony. Collin Goddard unlike past keynotes
was not alumni to Hofstra, so Hofstra issued Collin Goddard an honorary
degree at the commencement. Collin took over an hour to talk about
himself and how he "is curing cancer", that a pretty bold statement when
his company has yet to find a treatment to stop cancer, and his most
recent endeavor was to absorb a failing eye products company. If Collin
is so concerned with cancer and human welfare he should re-consider his
business affiliation with Robert Ingram of GlaxoSmithKline. From Paxil,
to AZT Glaxo is putting people second to profits and animals last when
looking at maximizing their profit margins.
As long as OSI and Glaxo continue to support human rights violations, and extreme cruelty to animals they can expect pressure from activists to change their policies. OSI and Collin Goddard can expect further protests and actions until they break their ties with GlaxoSmithKline and Huntingdon Life Sciences. The dozens of protestors were met by even more police, all undercover and unmarked. By the demonstrations end many activists were stopped while leaving and detained by police, and two were arrested. The efforts of Nassau county police went ignored by the activists who were all released by the nights end, knowing that their actions were just a knee-jerk response to the effectiveness of recent animal rights campaigns. Collin you never know where we will turn up, we are everywhere, and we are winning, your support of Glaxo will become your poorest choice. |
