Thank you to all who attended, the activists,
the speakers, the bands... and anyone else
who voulenteered with March Mayhem
-Day 1-
Friday March 26th, Write-Up
Friday's Events against HLS began with a protest of some 20 activists parked in front of 500 Commack Road, home to Forest Labs. The protestors were met by police and "men in black" suits who were not only harassing the protestors, but also Forest employees who wished to learn more about their employers connection to animal
cruelty at Huntingdon Life Sciences.
Many employees took leaflets about Forest
and their contracts to HLS, and all those
who refused the leaflets had to deal with
hefty chanting in their car windows as they
waited for a green light to exit the forest
parking lot. Brand new wooden privacy fencing
surrounding brand new chain link fencing
was installed Tuesday morning and stretches
around the whole front of the lab and their
newly constructed extension. This fencing
was brought in and installed mid week to
keep out protestors. Apparently Forest labs
is running scared...
Later that night at 8pm over 150 people
gathered at the congregational church of
Huntington for a concert and speaking event
that included music from the NSG, Cipher,
Encrypt Manuscript, and Regarding I. The
night also included amazing talks from Ashanti
Alston, the author of "The Anarchist
Panther", an organizer to Critical
Resistance, The Institute for Anarchist
Studies, and former Black Liberation Army
Prisoner! Followed by a powerful pre-set
speech from Moe-CIPHER, organizer with the
Long Island Progressive Coalition, Artist,
and Main Character in the film "Afro
Punk".
In all the night was a success!
-DAY TWO-
Saturday, March 27th, 2004
The day started off with a bang! Some
40+ activists gathered at a local train
station to car pool to various home protests
throughout the day. Each individual visited
received the same tenacious and boisterous
protests at their doorsteps demanding
that they sever their ties with HLS!
First was:
Shankar Hariharan
Senior Vice President of the Forest Research
Institute
5 Mike Lane
Smithtown, Long Island, NY
There protesters arrived before police,
staged a loud protest, and
canvassed the neighbors with leaflets
about forest labs contract with HLS cruelty.
Within a half hour dozens of police arrived
a few activists were briefly detained.
All were released and one was handed a
sitation. It was off to the next target!
Next was:
William J. Candee III
Director, Lawyer and Secretary to Forest
Labs
12 Valley Road
Glen Cove, Long Island, NY
William obviously knew we were coming.
There were police blockading his street
as well as the street adjacent to his.
A gate was put up and "fake"
private road signs were plucked out of
the ground from a street up the block
and placed into the ground at the mouth
to his road. William when the NY state
taxpayers pay for the paving of your road
and it's maintainance then it is public
domain, not private! About 20 or so folks
decided to excersize their rights to protest
in front of his home and jumped the gates.
William got all but a glimpse of the protestors
before police pushed them back to Cresent
Beach Blvd where they were joined by another
group of protesters! Despite the police
presence the neighbors were very supportive
and wished all the protesters the best
of luck and success! Off to another target!
Next was:
Yatsutsgu Kawahara
Assistant to the President of Sumitomo
Cooperation of America
Orchard Beach Blvd,
Port Washington, Long Island, NY
Yatsutsgu has been a long time target of
various animal rights protest groups, and
his waterfront apartment had fallen victim
to an ALF paint attack. As the protesters
assembled on orchard beach blvd, yatsutsgu
had just arrived home. This would be the
first time he was ever seen by activists.
As the activists approached him with litturature
an irate neighbor attacked a protestor at
the front of the group. Chants filled the
porch of his appartment, and carried to
the surrounding neighborhood. Yatsutsgu
you have not seen the last of us!"
-DAY THREE-
Sunday, March 28th, 2004
Sunday marked day three of "MARCH
MAYHEM" the third full day of protests
against HLS supporters in New York and Long
Island. Unfortunately the designated meet
up point in Central Park happened also to
be the site of a major greek pride festival
and parade. As a result our attendance was
hindered because activists could not find
their way through the crowds to meet up
and protest. Despite the bad luck some 25
activists gathered and protested against
4 major players at Forest Labs demanding
that they sever
their customer contract with HLS!
The first stop was at the home of Forest
head hancho!

Despite a couple of fall backs the whole
day went great, with tons of supporters,
hundreds of leaflets passed out, and dozens
of angry neighbors demanding justice for
the animals at HLS.
Forest, when we sink our teeth into a company
we don't let go!
